Choosing the Correct Bar Stool, Pub Stool & Counter-Height Stool Sizes

Counter Stools Bar Stools Extra Tall Bar Stools

Counter-Height Stools. A counter stool is usually 23" to 28" seat height. Counter stools are generally used with 35" to 40" high tables.

Bar-Height Stools. A bar stool is usually a 29" to 32" seat height. Bar stools are generally used with 41" to 43" high tables.

Extra-Tall Stools. An extra-tall bar stool is usually a 33" to 36" seat height. Extra-tall bar stools are generally used with 44" to 47" high tables.

To determine the number of stools you need, we recommend that you allow 26-30" between the centers of each stool. This is subjective and you're welcome to try and sqeeze-in an additional stool. For counter-height, gathering or pub tables, one per side is really all you can use. But for bars, many folks add "corner" stools at each end of a free standing bar. It just depends on the space you have and how formal or informal your setting is.
